Apple has officially unveiled the Vision Pro 2, and it addresses nearly every criticism levelled at the original headset. The new device weighs 40% less, features a redesigned battery that lasts a full eight hours, and starts at $2,499 — $1,000 less than its predecessor.
Key Hardware Improvements
The M4 Ultra chip powers the new headset, delivering twice the graphics performance of the original. The display resolution has been bumped to 4K per eye, and the field of view has been expanded by 15%.
The external battery pack has been eliminated entirely — the battery is now integrated into the headband, distributing weight more evenly and eliminating the cable that many users found cumbersome.
New Software Features
visionOS 3 ships with the device and introduces a new “Spatial Web” feature that allows websites to opt into immersive 3D experiences. Apple has also opened the platform to third-party eye-tracking applications for the first time.
Market Reception
Pre-orders sold out within hours of the announcement, suggesting that Apple has successfully addressed the adoption barriers that limited the original Vision Pro to early adopters.
